GENERAL CONDITIONS

The breeding season runs from 1 March up to and including 31 August ("Breeding Season").  No semen will be made available outside of these dates.

Fresh or chilled semen is limited, mainly due to our stallions' sport commitments and we cannot guarantee the availability of anything other than frozen semen.  Please contact us early to discuss availability if you wish to use fresh or chilled semen.

We recommend that you ask your vet to perform an initial inspection to assess whether artificial insemination with frozen, fresh or chilled semen is a viable option for your mare.

If you wish to use one of our stallions please contact us and ask us for a nomination form. We do not put nomination forms on the web for downloading as we believe it is important for us to discuss your requirements.

Please note we require the completed nomination form to be returned by e-mail to stackhousestud@btinternet.com or by post to Tracey Forrest, Little Choppins Stud, Spring Lane, Coddenham, Suffolk IP6 9TN.  We require payment in full PRIOR to the dispatch of the semen to you or your vet.

If you incur any problems, at any stage, please contact us immediately and we will do our best to help.

FLEXIBLE STUD TERMS

Please note Option A and B do not apply to CONTIDO

Our aim is the same as yours - for your mare to have a healthy foal. We have listened to our customers over the years and understand that personal circumstances differ such that one form of stud terms rarely fits all. Therefore we have attempted to provide flexible stud terms, offering you choice but in all cases trying to be fair to both mare and stallion owners.

Option A – "Live Foal Guarantee". We will continue to supply semen during two Breeding Seasons (as defined above) until a live foal is born or until you decide you no longer want to continue trying.

During the period 1 March to 1 September, if your mare is not in foal and you wish to try again, we will require written confirmation from a licensed veterinarian that your mare is not in foal BEFORE the next batch of semen is sent to you or your vet.

This option is limited to two consecutive breeding seasons and no semen will be despatched between 1 September and 1 March. The first two doses are sent together and their delivery is free within the UK. Delivery of any subsequent dose will be charged at £95 (UK charge). Delivery charges for overseas are negotiable on a case by case basis.

"Live Foal" is herein defined as a newborn foal, which stands and nurses without assistance. This means that if your mare loses its foal before the expiry of the pregnancy term or at foaling, you are eligible to return free of charge in the following breeding season provided that the proper notification procedures set out below are followed. "Proper Notification" is a written certification by a licensed veterinarian within seven days that the mare has aborted or produced a non-Live Foal. The mare owner will certify that such abortion or death did not result from any act or omission of the mare owner or their agent.

Should the nominated mare die before producing a Live Foal, then the mare owner may substitute another mare that is agreed to by both the mare owner and stallion owner.

Option B - Refund of stud fee. Under this option payment of the Nomination and Stud Fees entitles you to up to three insemination doses for your nominated mare. The first two doses are sent together and their delivery is free within the UK. Delivery of the third dose will be charged at £95 (UK charge). Delivery charges for overseas are negotiable on a case by case basis.

Should your mare not be in foal by 1 October of the year, in which the first semen is despatched, you should return to us a veterinary certificate confirming such. As long as she has been inseminated three times, you will receive a refund of the Stud Fee (note the nomination fee is not returnable).

Contido terms.  The payment of the Nomination and Stud Fee entitles you to up to three insemination doses for your nominated mare. The first two doses are sent together and their delivery is free within the UK. Delivery of the third dose will be charged at £95 (UK charge). Delivery charges for overseas are negotiable on a case by case basis.  There is no refund or right to a free return should your mare not get in foal.

Ordering Fresh / Chilled Semen

Please remember that our stallions are competing in the sport, so fresh or chilled semen can be limited.

You should contact us once you have decided to use one of our stallions to discuss whether fresh or chilled semen is likely to be available at the time that you will require it.

A nomination form together with the stud fee must be sent to us well in advance and contain an indication of the approximate date that the semen is required.

48 hours notice is required by telephoning one of the contact numbers  before despatch of semen. If fresh or chilled semen is not available from your chosen stallion for the first covering you have the option to either receive frozen semen, in which case the frozen semen terms apply, or change to another stallion with an appropriate price adjustment.  If you do not wish to take either of these options, and we are unable to deliver the stallion of your choice, your nomination and stud fee will be refunded in full.

It is important that you ensure that you or your vet has adequate insurance to cover the storage of the semen as it will no longer be covered by our insurance once it reaches its destination.

The semen will be delivered in an appropriate container, which must be returned at the mare owner's cost.

If the mare is not in foal after insemination we require written confirmation from your vet. Due to the limited availability of fresh / chilled semen, we reserve the right to despatch up to 2 doses of frozen semen, after discussion and with the agreement of the mare owner.

We will however endeavour to make available fresh / chilled semen if that is what you have ordered.

We are proud of our flexibility, so if you have different requirements please call us to discuss and we will try to accommodate you.

Ordering Frozen Semen

Our frozen semen has been collected by Stallion AI Services Limited, based at Twemlows Hall Stud (a DEFRA Approved Collection Centre).

Orders should be placed in advance by telephoning one of the contact numbers. Please allow three working days for the semen to be packed and dispatched.  Our distribution contractor does not operate on a Saturday or Sunday. To avoid semen being held over by the couriers, deliveries are made Tuesday to Friday inclusive.  If subsequent doses are required, we need written notice to that effect.

It is important that you ensure that you or your vet has adequate insurance to cover the storage of the semen as it will no longer be covered by our insurance once it reaches its destination.

The frozen semen will be delivered in an appropriate container, which must be returned at the mare owner's cost.  Most vets experienced in working with frozen semen will have their own storage containers and will transfer the semen and return the container to the distribution contractor immediately with the carriers.

Once a pregnancy is achieved any unused doses of semen remain the property of Stackhouse Stud and will be returned to the storage centre at the mare owners’ cost. No unauthorised coverings are allowed - only the mare nominated to us by the mare owner shall be covered, unless otherwise agreed.

Payment

Cheques should be made payable to Mrs T Forrest.  Please return the cheque to Tracey Forrest, Little Choppins Stud, Spring Lane, Coddenham, Suffolk IP6 9TN.  We require payment of all charges in full PRIOR to the dispatch of the semen to you or your vet.

Once Your Mare Is In Foal

When your mare is in foal, let us know. Send us a certificate from your vet including the date(s) of insemination.  Following 1 October we will issue you with a covering certificate from the relevant breed society.  They will send you the necessary paperwork for registering your foal.

We take great interest in the progeny of our stallions. When your foal is born let us know and send us a picture if you can.
