Merriment was bought by Stackhouse Stud at an elite broodmare auction in Holland. She has been graded as an Elite mare by the KWPN, meaning that she has passed a stringent veterinary inspection. In 2004 she was ranked 18th in the KWPN mare rankings. She also jumped to 1.20m level as a six year old herself before unfortunately injury halted her competitive career and she become a broodmare, since when she has had two foals by Quidam de Revel and one each by Baloubet du Rouet, Corland, Poor Boy and Furore as well as her 2008 filly foal by Romanov and her 2010 filly foal by Contido. She has also adopted our orphan colt foal Baryshnikov following his dam's death as well as raising Mika.

Her sire Voltaire is a cross of two influential bloodlines: Furioso II (Selle Francais) and Gotthard (Hanoverian). Voltaire achieved many competitive successes with Jos Lansink including victory in the 1989 Berlin Grand Prix. Voltaire was the sire with the most offspring at the Olympic Games of Atlanta in 1996. He has over 50 approved sons and many of his offspring jump at Grand Prix level eg: Finesse, Helios, Kannan, and Concorde. Royal Kaliber, the silver medallist at the 2004 Athens Olympics is out of a Voltaire mare.

Merriment’s dam, Gipsy (KWPN Elite Preferent Prestatie), is also the mother of the international jumpers Kristal and Lynn and the approved stallion Rendement.

Merriment's dam’s sire Nurzeus is a mix of Selle Français and Anglo Arab blood. His sire, the Anglo Arab, Arlequin is a recognised sire of international showjumpers, indeed Zeus’ full brother, Figaro (Harry Wouters Van Den Oudenweyer) and sister, Diablesse (J. P. Bonneau) both won at international level.

Nurzeus has himself sired many successful jumpers including Midnight Madness (Michael Whitaker), Playback (Rodney Jenkins), Lonesome Dove and Czar (Ian Millar) and Zandor Z (Jos Lansink). Marcus Fuchs' World Cup Champion Tinka’s Boy is out of a Nurzeus mare.

In the third generation, the stallion Hurricane (by Abgar) was an international dressage horse.
